Computer graphics Sefer is a video made with images drawn on ancient books, the pages of which open making symbolic forms appear that follow the cosmological description of an ancient Hebrew mystic text. The Sefer video was presented by Letizia Ardillo during the Day of Jewish Culture, Palazzo della Cultura Rome
There is an opening in every situation, and that is why the ancients spoke of doors when they referred to knowledge. In relation to our decisions we can open or close the door, and based on this we will have the reward that consists in the passage.
Sefer is a video made with images drawn on ancient books, the pages of which open making symbolic forms appear that follow the cosmological description of the Sefer Yetzerà text. The theme takes up the passage of time, this cyclical nature translates into a continuous opening of doors. The 22 images follow one another in an unlimited cyclic sequence.
Sefer in the Hebrew language means book, story, calculation, starting from these three meanings, the artist composes a sequence of 22 images made on ancient books which show the passages that accompany the letters in the Book of Formation, Sefer Yetzerà.
(...) Twenty-two fundamental letters, he engraved them, sculpted them, weighed them, exchanged them, united them, and with them he formed the soul of every created thing and of everything that must be created.
(Sefer Yetzerà the Book of Formation)
The Book of Formation is a work of mystical-kabbalistic literature written in Hebrew between the third and fourth centuries but which some traditions even attribute to the patriarch Abraham. This book describes, through mystical meditations, how the creation of the cosmos took place.
