On the day Bahar left Iran for what would be the last time, she wore a warm-hued hijab, a sign of hope for the future that awaited her. Once she reached Italian soil, she uncovered her face, shoulders and hair, feeling free at last.

Today that hijab, never worn again, is the star of "I Like You, You Like Me," a series created with the aim of bringing Western society closer to the Muslim female condition. Bahar took more than 50 polaroids, inviting women, men and children to wear her hijab. However, people are asked to wear it backwards, leaving their shoulders and hair uncovered and covering their faces instead: a reversal of perspective, but also a sense of disquiet and a cry of alarm to denounce the individual female identity that is being silently erased day after day.
