Acrylic on canvas, original, unique. "Bello not abstinebant: adeo it infeliciter quidem defensae libertatis taedebat et quam not win temptare victoriam malebant"
Not fleeing the war (...) preferred to be conquered rather than give up fighting for victory. (Livio, X, 31.14)
That of the Samnites is the story of a people brave, of strong temperament, that from 343 to 290 b. C. contentions to the Romans the supremacy of Italy. From Sabina, the Sabines, or Sabelli, conducted by Comio Castronio led by sacred ox, founded in the land of the headwaters of the Opici Tifernus (today Biferno) their ancient, glorious capital, the Oscan Bovaianom, during a "Sacred Spring ". For Ver Sacrum newborns of each animal species, together with girls and young warriors, following the auspices of the sacred rites, they walked away from the original strain in search of new lands to colonize. Livio describes Bovianum (Latin name of Bojano, in Osco Bovaianom) as the capital of the Samnites Pentri, by far the strongest and rich for personnel and equipment.
"Caput Pentrorum Samnitium, longe ditissimum, atque opulentissimum armis, virisque".
Just the Italian people Samnites gave the name "Italy", "Viteliu" in Osco, to the italian nation.
