Eyeglass lenses, collage, and mixed media on canvas
Eyeglass lenses, covered with fragments of crosswords completed by my mother, become a metaphor for an inherited gaze. The work reflects on perception and the interpretation of reality: what we see is always mediated by signs, words, and riddles to be deciphered. The crossword surface that covers the lenses transforms the act of looking into an exercise of memory and imagination, inviting the viewer to question which visions arise from their own inner gaze.
To read and solve a crossword requires concentration—the same focus needed to truly observe the world around us. The lenses thus become a fragile and symbolic filter, where family memory and the act of seeing intertwine, transforming an everyday object into a threshold between intimacy, remembrance, and perception.
