These works originate from a drawing process that unfolds without a predetermined image. I work very close to the surface of the paper, focusing on small portions at a time and allowing marks and lines to accumulate without having a clear view of the overall composition while the drawing takes shape.
In this way, the act of drawing becomes both a form of automatic writing and a process of observation. Rather than intentionally constructing an image, I follow the emergence of forms as they begin to suggest structures, figures, or organisms. The drawing develops progressively, almost as if the image were revealing itself through the accumulation of gestures.
Only once the work is completed do I step back from the sheet and observe the image in its entirety for the first time. It is at that moment that the drawing often reveals unexpected configurations: anthropomorphic figures, biological structures, or symbolic forms that were not consciously planned during the process.
In the case of the figure that emerged in the drawing HE/SHE, I found myself confronted with a clearly anthropomorphic presence that was impossible to define in terms of gender. I therefore asked myself on what basis I could decide whether to attribute a male or female identity to it. From this reflection the title HE/SHE was born, acknowledging the coexistence of both possibilities.
The drawing was then reworked through digital operations of inversion and mirroring. The superimposition of the two parts generated a symmetrical figure, as if the two identities were merging into a single presence. From this transformation the work THEM… emerged, in which the plural pronoun becomes the final form to indicate a non-binary and open identity.
This method transforms the sheet of paper into a space of emergence where instinctive gesture and visual recognition coexist. Through interventions such as inversion, mirroring, and superimposition, the original drawing can generate new configurations, allowing the intuitively emerged forms to develop further meanings.
