I recreated his characteristic vivid blue (IKB- International Klein Blue) by blending together the ultramarine pigment and the medium I use the most: acrylics. Just as Klein, I painted a monochromatic canvas where the colour blue becomes the representation of space, eliminating any individuality and any reference to mankind. On the polycarbonate sheet I illustrated a Panama landscape using the two other principal colours in Klein’s painting: pink and gold. In his poetic view, blue is associated with nirvana, peace and emptiness, pink is associated with body, blood, the descent on earth and incarnation, while gold is the metaphor of the matter enlighten by life, a mediator between the visible and invisible world. Thus, I used these colours to symbolise the constructive parts of an urban view: in the background the infinite “nature” in blue, on which man has then built his urban constructions, his social body, through matter and materials.
