a gold line through the Green one was first and foremost a 30-day solo walking journey from Pesaro to Viareggio, which took place from February 24 to March 25, 2023, in which as I moved forward along the route, I left behind me a trail of 18k gold particles resulting from the slow, gradual consumption of 24 nails of the same material placed under the soles of the shoes I was wearing. Nails made by the fusion of objects and family jewelry to make a non-linear journey, specially designed so as to touch places of personal experience and collective history, in fact everything took place within territories of Gothic Line (Green), one of the last defense fronts of the Nazi-Fascist coalition in Italy during World War II. The project conceived about ten months before the departure, was also a pretext to look from a different perspective at the neighboring wars of the present, not by chance I chose to leave exactly one year after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. historically considered as the beginning of the still ongoing conflict.
At www.fabertazzoni.com the archive of the individual stages remains as a reprocessing of the maps and GPS track recorded during the travel days and the description of the project itself.
Technical note:
Industrially produced footwear claw nails made of tungsten steel (example in photo) are generally used by hikers and forestry workers as slip-resistant devices on ice or slippery soils. Starting with two mass-produced samples, I modified them for use on any ground, then contracted a goldsmith to make the mold and then casting them in gold.
