BEHIND THE LAND is a work that solves a complex bureaucratic tangle intertwined between municipal and provincial administrations, landscape and environmental skills that lasted about fifteen years.
Colfer is a scrap recovery and disposal company operating in Villafranca di Verona. The production hub is located within a hybrid territorial band made up of extensive rural areas, mobility infrastructures, industrial plates and urban centres.
It is a landscape enhancement project that aims to integrate the showy site of the metal processing plant, a volume that imposes itself on the horizontality of the surrounding agricultural fields, through alternative solutions to the typical vegetal screening.
The work takes shape from the relationship between the diplomatic work of Claudio Bertorelli founder of Aspro Studio and the conceptual and visual work of the artist Pierluigi Slis.
The wall shows the artist's personal theme of "fragile lands" developed since 2014.
In this cycle the author relates clods, fragments, usually cut from previous pictorial works, in a delicate formal balance between solids and voids, colors and cuts of different natures. The intent is for the work to stand in the formal part solely and exclusively on the relationship between the parts suspended on the virgin canvas, not in a static way but almost in a subtly precarious flight.
In this case the authorial theme goes well with the relational situation of the story, both on a visual level, the relationship of the building with the surrounding area, and on a social level in the subtle and complex balance between the many parts brought into play.
The lands are "fragile" in the artist's investigation as they are consumed in the void,
in this way, even the very activity of processing ferrous scrap is reinterpreted as the expression of a production cycle that reaches its conclusion
and that we are preparing for a new cycle.
A cycle which, becoming virtuous, also acquires an aesthetic and symbolic value.
The operation is not simple given the considerable surface area of the perimeter elevations of about 10,000 square meters on a linear development of one kilometre. Dimensions that make it one of the most important achievements of this kind on a national level.
Furthermore, the balance of the chromatic scales and the dynamism of the forms allow a harmonious perception of the work both from a great distance and near the building. A balance difficult to achieve on such a large surface considering a gap between the points of view of about 1000 meters.
The harmony between artist and architect was undoubtedly one of the keys to the successful realization of the work, a relationship characterized by spontaneous contributions and mutual support towards the realization of a shared project.
Pierluigi also wrote a daily diary of the construction of the work in which he explores the vicissitudes clod by clod.
