BREATHE through your wounds
Black threads on cotton paper
2020

BREATHE through your wounds has been selected by the jury of the 15th edition of Arte Laguna Prize as one of the finalists artworks of the prize. This piece has been on show at the Arsenale of Venice in October 2021.
BREATHE through your wounds was conceived in late February 2020, when Italy was one of the first countries to be impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic. I independently started a period of isolation, days before the problem escalated. It is during these days spent in the studio, I started wondering about the future after this moment in history. How will we change our approach to life and to other human beings?
One of the main issues will be the perception of body and contact.
We are trying with all our strength to replace the body, inventing its projection, its virtual substitute. This is not something new but now the process has unprecedentedly accelerated.
How can we feel the breath, the heat in the simulacrum of the human body?
Breathe through your wounds is an invitation to awareness of one’s living body. A body that moves, a body that heats up, a body that occupies a space, that weighs, that suffers, that is torn, but through its wounds still finds the strength to breathe and reborn.
