This painting is a vision of some sort of Arcadia in which a trinity of figures walk in blissful joy, In this green field they are carrying torches and they move towards the blue of the sea. The flames of justice keep burning and one of those three is carrying the scales: a hope for a world of equity in which enlightened people rule.
In ancient Greece the torch was also associated with love. I liked that this picture could also be ambiguous on this sense. We don’t know if they are lovers or just friends. Maybe the scales that the guy is carrying stand for a difficult choice to make?
