PLA filament on tulle veil
300x300 cm
Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Fondazione Polo Teologico Torinese - Turin
curated by Enrico Zanellati, Don Alberto Piola, Federica Avanzato and Laura Valle.
"For the eighteenth-century chapel, Lorenzo Gnata has imagined and tuned, as a musical score, the work "With the stars", where on a night sky converge human figures and stars that create a narrative "very close to that of waiting, ie nostalgia, o, more precisely, the desire of the nostalgic". And the very slight figural entities become suspended flight, using and experimenting with the white 3D pen on a veil of black tulle".
Angelo Mistrangelo
The work was conceived as a reflection on the theme of waiting: a dimension foreign to contemporary feeling, doped with speed and moments consumed.
A few meters above the heads of the visitors, an impossible sky floats, cut out by night and tied to the center of the church; like a window open on another time. This shields the vision, standing between the individuals on the ground and the decorative apparatus of the structure. Lines in white PLA, slender, like notes drawn in chalk, thus describe human figures and stars, in a sudden dialogue and perceptive clash between work and background, filiform bodies and frescoes, drawn stars and stucco stars. Each visual point generates a new landscape, on that sky studded with stars that speaks of an expectation now satisfied and a desire vanished, swept away by the sidereal flare of those entities so dense of answers.
Details:
The work consists of elements drawn using the technology of the 3D pen, which allows you to draw lines whose existence does not prescind from a physical support below.
After extrusion on a horizontal plane, the solidified material (PLA) detaches from the original surface, getting rid of the and becoming an object in space. Not sculptures created by modelling and bending matter, but works created through a two-dimensional graphic approach, later become three-dimensional.
It is an invention that allows you to feel the graphic sign, not relegating it to a surface, but freeing it from the same. This sign, when it manifests its true nature and graphic expression, stops being a sign, becoming a sculptural object. It’s an elusive dimension. Because it manifests itself in a conjuncture that links drawing, painting, sculpture, installation and photography, without one part prevailing over the others; or perhaps, uniting them all at the origin of art, the one that, according to Pliny, is found precisely in drawing.
