through the cracks in the marble blocked on the mirror by a burnt wooden frame everyone can see their own fragmented image reflected which sometimes emerges, other times sinks into the work.
The oval covered in black soot represents the supporting structure of the mask, the soot conceals the original surface of the wood, hides it and protects it at the same time.The wood covered in this black powder undergoes a transformation that makes it appear differently from what it is, this superficial patina is the mask of the wood which is why this term is strongly connected to the word soot from a pre-Indo-European word masca «soot, black ghost » Marble represents the most fragile internal part, hit by the impact with reality which has reduced it to pieces and divided it but thanks to these cracks we can see the image of what we really are.
