Of evident Egyptian inspiration, this work depicts a portal, a threshold of passage. The painting takes its name from the jewel placed in the center, in which there are symbols belonging to different traditions.
The hieroglyphics drawn at the edges of the painting have a material base made up of plaster, and are taken from the "Book of the Dead of Ancient Egypt", describing precisely of the journey of the soul.
The frame of the portal is then composed of a decoration of colored stones, taken from the famous funerary mask of "Tutankhamun".
In the center of the jewel is then depicted the Scarab, a symbol of rebirth, but which, together with the other 6 gems in a vertical row, also takes on the function of one of the energy points of the human being, forming the seven Chakras together.
Below you can see two figures that appear as if hanging from the jewel, a heart and a feather: these go to recall the "psychostasis", that is the ceremony during which the God Anubis weighs the heart of the deceased, which must be more light of a feather, so that the soul can access the afterlife.
A work with multiple depictions of energetic appeal and symbolism of eternity. An immortality that concerns the invisible essence of the human being, able to cross thresholds that are denied to the matter of the body.
Mixed Medium: Airbrush, paintbrush, acrylic paints
On rigid panel
Base: prepared with putty in the centre and plaster around, and final finish with opaque and glossy transparent paints
Original work
