This is the material result of a performance.
My inspiration for this work are performance artists from the ’60 and ’70 and the berliner artist Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven.
For a period of two months I continued my habit of putting on make up everyday and I collected every make up remover wipe I used. The result is 60 pieces of used wipes that were then sewn together.
Around the age of 15 year old I developed this habit and since then I put on make up every single day. I used and currently use this “mask” to fill the void of inadequacy, my work is an analysis of the use of make up, as a criticism to the social rule that see women as “incomplete” without make up.
This is an habit visualiazed as a material object.
The wipes become an unseen sixth garment. This is the garment people, and especially women, are forced to used everyday.
the concept of masking imperfections can also talk to men and people with features not accepted by society.
