The series of works titled «In One’s Own Skin» (2020-2023) by neurodivergent artist Ortésia Cabrera is an investigation through various artworks about the neurodiversity movement and the neurodivergent reality in Catalonia, embodied collective knowledge with the involvement of individuals and associations.

For 3 years, I created a series of spaces for the gathering, reflection, narration, and organization of the neurodivergent community, emphasizing what I call neurodecolonization: generating our own neurodivergent culture and community from direct interventions on materiality and recreating self-centered ADHD, Autistic, bipolar, schizophrenic etc. knowledge. And worked to translate the propositions of neurodiversity culture, which is still largely unknown, into practical interventions for groups and individuals living with these conditions and for society at large. Through various meetings, we have been distilling knowledge and simultaneously empowering ourselves through debate and peer support, fostering the creation of neurodivergent communities and groups founded and managed from a first-person reality. Ultimately, we have aimed at promoting the role of allies for neurotypical individuals – family, friends, associations, psychologists – while centering the neurodivergent person in the process, and making this information accessible to the general public. A paper, a podcast, an exhibition, a collective, a fanzine for neurodivergent adolescents (awarded with the Miquel Casablancas Prize 2021) were some of the results. The final corpus of knowledge, finally, has been reunited and will be published as a book in 2025 by Manifest Llibres.
