KAIROS - SELF-PORTRAIT
Videotape (digitised VHS) | Colour | Sound
‘My time is a time of Abandonment of the Hour that does not come’.
The self-portrait in Kairos paints red through the temporal movement of the videotape the expectation of Abandonment. Abandonment is a dual word, meaning to be alone and to trust, to have faith. In this light, the concept of Kairos is reflected in an existential sense in the expectation of a relational moment of the ego with Being, being with. The video has the peculiarity of recording the soul in real time by piercing the body with light. The technique used of reverese time and freeze time also reflects on the eternal and contradictory temporal dynamic. Red is the colour I contemplate and deepen. The pathos and eros of red. The form of the body, which arises from an inner need, colours the space with emotional tones, becoming an opening form. The video is a carnal visual prayer.
MARCO BALBI DIPALMA
Contemporary artist Marco Balbi Dipalma explores the essence of his being and existence through one of the most powerful and immediate means of expression: video art. It allows him to capture the complexity of feelings and emotions, offering the viewer a window into his inner world. In the video performance, the artist records in real time all the movements produced by the body during a long wait. Throughout the duration of the video, the phrase ‘my time is time for abandonment’ is continuously repeated, thus becoming a hypnotic mantra.
The repetition invites the viewer to reflect on his own essence, the concept of time, knowledge and spirituality, and the fusion of sound and words make the work an intellectual experience. Another important element is the use of the colour red, which is present both in the jacket and on the floor, and symbolises spiritual and carnal contemplation. The performance is not just a visual representation but an emotional journey that expands the understanding of the self and the world.
