The work “Labbra” is part of a serie entitled “In the dark”.
Each work in this series is a look at the micro space/world of the private, of closed internal spaces, where the world can only be seen from a window. It is a figurative language but only on the surface, minimalism and synthesis shape forms extrapolated from the female body, one of the most consumed objects in media images. In a voyeuristic manner, visions of details are created, they could be theaters, film sets, where curtains, booths and neon lights are mentioned repeatedly. The darkness mentioned in the title is that of the internet world, to which we are subordinate. Consumerism towards objects, information, food, often cited by the act of eating and biting, is represented with cynicism and disenchantment.
The mouth appears enlarged and extrapolated by a camera lens to become something beyond reality. As in the entire pictorial series, the image is not what it appears, but a set where altered fiction is staged. In "lips" the reference to the gesture of eating, of biting greedily with a grimace that shows the teeth, is evident. The choice of a black food reminiscent of coal is inspired by a 2011 performance (Restando Umani by L. Anselmi, R. Cavallari), in which the artist eats sweet coal continuously for a long time. The image focuses on the symbolic value of the color black and on the theme of darkness, in this case the black drips and dirty the lips. There are various references to our time, the darkness in the internet world that directs our desires, making us bulimic and subaltern, the consumer society, the decadence that is perceived in our time.
