Matra is the first experiment in the artist’s ongoing exploration of data ‘musification’ based on the proprietary Amrita Matrix system. The project began as a collaboration with Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), producing symphonies derived from geoscientific data—seismograms, geomagnetic activity, and other phenomena.
This research led to the development of a sophisticated algorithmic architecture capable of generating compositional frameworks based on data and metalanguages, transforming numerical impulses into polyphonic symphonies of modal music. These impulses may be pre-recorded or captured in real time from data streams, human body movements, or sensor inputs.
The result is a polyphonic ensemble that—unlike abstract sonification exercises—yields coherent, resonant musical structures. Currently patent-pending, the system will enable the creation of new exclusive works, through which the artist investigates the interplay between algorithmic, human, natural, and conceptual realms.
