"A neighborhood that dreams represents a community that manages to transform an ambitious idea into reality", declared Chiara Rinaldi, president of the association "Nel Viale", and Isabella Dell’Aera, president of the Masera District. "Make Viale Masera a work of art" is a shared project, a vision that takes shape. "Mitosi" by Samuel Di Blasi is the first of the works of art that will take place in this neighborhood".
The permanent and monumental work develops around 16 columns that define a 60-meter portion of the ring road of the neighborhood. Made of epoxy resin and gelcoat, "Mitosi" is the result of a shared work between the artist and the students of the Pinot Gallizio Art School in Alba, under the guidance of Professor Cristiana Cravanzola. The students participated in all phases of the creative process, from the modeling of the 24 elements to the final fixing on the columns.
"My 'Mitosi' is not only a biological process, but also a powerful metaphor on duplication, separation and transformation", explained Samuel Di Blasi - Nature uses mitosis to ensure the continuity and diversification of life, but something similar also happens in our world. Every new beginning requires a phase of copying and preserving the past, but after the separation each 'part' can grow and differentiate itself autonomously. It was my desire to represent this human division and duplication through matter: inhabitants who pass through a work of art and who – after this experience – duplicate their life, make it double, different, bigger".
"The association 'Nel Viale' has taken a big step by believing in this project", added Di Blasi. "No other neighborhood in Alba has so far supported such a demanding artistic intervention. I am sure that this will only be the first of a long series of similar interventions, which will allow us to live and pass through art in the present".
