The title of this painting, taken from a comment by an authoritative figure in the world of art critics, was chosen in opposition to those who believe that art must align itself with the banalization of predominant thinking for marketing purposes. The children seem to be playing – a deceptively captivating and pacified image – and at a first glance they attract one’s attention. Only by looking closer the eye lingers to consider that their toys are referring to a universe of war on one hand, and on the other to a society that is alienated by consumerism and merchandise, which inevitably leads to aggressive, competitive and selfish behaviours that have no other outcome but an attitude of solipsistic isolation.
