“Porta di Luce” is a sculptural work created specifically by Di Blasi for the city of Alba that highlights
connections between art and territory through the introduction of light as an element that completes
the work itself; it represents a continuous organic movement similar to what nature is able to generate through the flow of water. It is reproduced through an artistic aluminum casting of 51 linear meters with a satin finish of the surfaces, and by a unique galvanized iron supporting structure.
“Porta di Luce” is an abstract sign in space: two-dimensional as a line but three-dimensional
as a cut that subtracts and reveals a new opening. The artistic goal is to orient the path
toward an urban aesthetic that assumes the principle of “beauty” as the value of growth and definition of
a community that looks at its own evolution in cultural terms, and of enhancing the sense
of belonging and caring for the “common thing.”
“...A subtraction had to be practiced. Removing more than fifty meters of a wall of military origin
made of reinforced concrete that had been visible in the city for over fifty years allowed us to open a gap that finally extends the field of vision. “Porta di Luce was created to unite two spaces, not to divide, and at its center precisely to fulfill this function the work houses an opening that connects the interior of a school with the city of Alba.” (Samuel Di Blasi)
"...It is the demarcation of a new layout in urbanistic and, architectural terms that becomes one with the artwork created by Di Blasi; art and Architecture have met."
