Since 2016, fibrous materials like textile, paper, and thread, are an important feature in the work. Fibre, a material that singularly exists as a thin thread could be assembled into pieces of unlimited dimensions. The repetitive action of weaving a piece of fabric signifies not only the time contained in the process of its construction, but also the potential to occupy and create space.
Clothes form a protective layer around the body, it insulates and hides, but also communicates and affirms a coded identity. In Self Portrait, the artist created two soft sculptures out of painted canvas and her own hair. The pieces resemble the human body in a vague manner, without being overly constructed. The canvas is painted in a way that brings to mind bodily fluids; blood and veins barely visible through the skin. We inhabit our clothes as much as they take on the shape of our bodies. This reciprocal process not only constructs an identity, but also creates a physical entity.
