Tempesta Vaia (29 October 2018), walking the mountain paths, in the vast areas affected, millions of fallen trees were no longer possible, the tracks disappeared, buried by the bodies of the trees felled by the fury of the elements.
For a few months, it was no longer possible to walk through the woods: walking had become almost a primitive form of climbing, the hands and the back of the legs more useful.
Climbing the stems on the ground, often in twisted bunches or piles, going around them, leaving the track, upset or lost.
Skipped directions, changed travel times: first of all changed the way you travel: the paths, to be retraced.
Redefine the paths hidden under the fallen trees, looking upwards, towards Vaia, this is Simone Cametti's starting point.
A new tracing.
The artist has decided to mark his new paths directly above the bodies of the trees.
In this way, you are forced to get lost among the disordered slopes, to look for other points of reference, to codify new points of reflection with respect to the concept of ascent itself, defining one path above the other: overwriting the tracks.
I recovered forty meters of fluorescent tube with related functional ballasts. During one evening in July, spent in the Cametti house, in the Cologne, I defined the space in which to produce the work, I placed the fluorescent tubes on a fir tree fallen in the woods, seventeen meters long, I created the connections, I turned on the generator .
The work produced is a steady shot, where the neon light turns on the forest above for a few minutes. Halfway through the video, the generator shuts down, redefining time and space noise.
