The structure explores the relationship between geometry and sound using sound polyhedra, including the Series of Platonic Sound Solids. These structures demonstrate how shape influences the spatial distribution of sound through vibro-amplification, creating a multisensory experience. They show that geometric forms are not only visual but also acoustic, expanding design possibilities and offering new perspectives on sound perception in space.
The geometric figure is made of solid wood. Silent when taken individually, it begins to resonate once in contact with a source of vibration transmitted by the pedestal. The latter contains the technological device useful for playing music from devices via bluetooth, cable, or wi-fi. The base, without the structure, would lose its amplification and you would hear low-volume sounds (like those from a turntable not connected to the system). The effect is similar to that of a tuning fork, whose sound is amplified by the surface (or structure) on which it rests.
It is a structure studied and used in art and mathematics for its harmonic properties, from Kepler to Leonardo da Vinci to Luca Pacioli and more recently to Escher. The choice is due to its self-dual and multiple geometric (and sonic) properties, which are enclosed in one or more harmonic polyhedra, allowing the sound to find numerous geometries to interact with. The structure resonates with any music and sound, giving its own spatial interpretation.
