The project represents a distorted idea of identity and metamorphosis: both combined to form a new way of seeing a person, a body, an identity.
The mirrors create another reality that is completely different from that one we live into.
The part of the body in front of the mirror is reflecting in it so there are two different figures fused together thanks to the illusion that the mirror’s reflection creates.
The bodies in the pictures are represented without an identity but in the same time they represent the concept of identity thanks to the way they are portrayed: we can only see the body and some part of it, sometimes we cannot recognize if it is a female or a male body and for this reason the body keeps his identity despite not having a definite one.
The name of this project refers to the paradox of Theseus’ Ship that talks about the famous ship sailed by Theseus in a great battle that was kept in a harbour. As the years go by some of the wooden parts begin to rot and are replaced by new ones. After a century or so, all the parts have been replaced. The moral of this story wanders if the ship is still the same object as the original and if it has preserved its identity.
It happens the same with the body: changing the parts with similar ones, has the body still its identity?

This project is made to destroy the normal vision of “reality”. For this reason, the presentation is like entering a new world where the first sensation is not finding yourself and your identity. A place where the vision is completely different.
For the exhibition, in the room of the gallery will be exposed the pictures as an installation: in fact the photographs are hanging from the ceiling with the mirrors in different sizes.
Also the photographs are hanging from the ceiling and they are 25x25cm printed on a mirror where the back can reflect as the other round mirrors.
All the parts of the installation are hanging in different heights: from 60cm to 1,70m.
The viewer can move through the mirrors and the pictures, so some parts of his body will be reflected on the mirrors in the room, decomposing his own body as the pictures.
The effect of the moving mirrors that reflect your body, the body of someone else and the light, is to recreate a room located into another universe, another reality.
