Profile picture of Ramona RUSSU
Ramona Russu is a Romanian painter, formed at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in
Brussels, who has been based in Corsica since 2014.
Her artistic practice is rooted in the
exploration of human resilience, particularly through the lens of femininity. She seeks to
reveal the beauty in imperfection, the strength within fragility, and the profound narratives
etched into scars.
Working with a monochromatic palette enhanced by 24-karat gold leaf,
she draws inspiration from the Japanese kintsugi technique, which honors brokenness by
illuminating fractures rather than concealing them. This approach reflects the wabi-sabi
philosophy, embracing imperfection, impermanence, and authenticity. Fragmentation lies
at the core of her work—not as an end, but as a beginning—where broken forms,
memories, and identities are reconstructed into luminous testaments of resilience and
self-acceptance.
At the heart of her paintings lies the duality of light and darkness,
embodied in her materials: charcoal, symbol of memory and essence, and gold leaf,
symbol of transformation and elevation. Together, they form a dialogue where pain and
beauty, strength and vulnerability, coexist. Her works, exhibited internationally and part of
private collections worldwide, invite viewers to reflect on their own imperfections,
transforming life expériences into sources of strength and beauty.
