CARLO SCIFF
La pittura di CARLO SCIFF è senza dubbio Pop e dalla Pop Art degli anni sessanta riprende la pubblicità, la mercificazione dei prodotti, i modelli dei mass media, gli stereotipi popolari.
Ma l'artista traduce tutto ciò seguendo due binari che sono sempre presenti in ogni opera e connotano con coerenza un percorso iniziato in età adulta legato sottilmente anche ad una vita di lavoro nel campo del Design, a stretto contatto con personaggi tra cui Vico Magistretti.
Se dalla progettazione industriale deriva una predisposizione alla linearità e all'armonia cromatica, le due direttrici della ricerca di SCIFF sono, da un lato un'ironia che dissacra gli elementi basilari della Pop Art novecentesca, dove nulla veniva messo in discussione, dall'altro l'esibizione di una cultura classica che lo spinge ad apporre su ogni quadro o scultura, un bollino dai colori vivaci recante un motto latino.

Il contrasto che si crea tra le forme facili immediatamente leggibili, i titoli che fanno spesso sorridere con intelligenza e ancora le citazioni latine che inseriscono nel discorso una nota etica, anche se mai moraleggiante, inducono l'osservatore a riflettere con leggerezza sulle abitudini vuote, sulle ossessioni e sulle manie di una borghesia convenzionale e povera di autocritica.

CARLO SCIFF's paintings are without a doubt Pop and Pop Art of the sixties that reproduce images coming from advertising, commodity of products, mass media models and popular stereotypes.
The artist translates everything following two tracks that are always present in each of his works and consistently characterize a process that began in adulthood, tied to a lifetime of work in the field of design, in close contact with people such as Vico Magistretti.
If the industrial design results in a predisposition to linearity and chromatic harmony, the two focuses of the SCIFF research are, on the one hand an irony that desecrates the basic elements of the twentieth century Pop Art, where nothing was being questioned, and on the other hand the performance of a classical culture that drives him to affix to each painting or sculpture, a brightly colored sticker bearing a Latin motto. "These open wide famous phrases, suddenly a opening onto the classical culture of SCIFF, a completely different world that is foreign to the present Pop", comments Martina Corgnati, art critic.
The contrast created between the easily understood forms, the headlines that often make us smile intelligently and even the Latin quotations that fit into something a little more ethical although never moralizing, lead the observer to reflect easily onto simple habits, on the obsessions and delusions of a conventional middle class that lacks self-criticism.
