Neri's “scarecrows” are a strong affirmation of his identity and conscience as an artist. The de-contextualization of these objects, generally linked to the preservation of life, could be pleonastic if it were not followed by a coherent re-contextualization in the artistic reference system.
Scarecrows are commonly used objects, used to protect the earth, roots, past and personal history. In Neri's works they partially perform this function, as a warning to preserve life and the human race, which is never represented directly, but only through artifacts.
The materials stand out in a negative way. Surfaces with unusual, almost unreal reflections, afflict these figures. Composed of an unknowable material,
with improbable reactions to light, they confirm a state of total immobility with their visual presence. While in their midst stands the steady, alert and attentive eye that preserves and protects the stasis and immobility of the status quo.
Instead of defending the earth, they threaten all the states to which the soul and spirit can aspire, erasing future contexts and worlds, leaving convulsive, disturbing, metallic gestures on the background of the canvas, thus reversing the natural concept of cause. and effect.
