In "Acuto," Fontana continues his exploration of the phenomenology of sound, shifting attention from the musical object to the metamorphosis of the body that produces it. The work is a visual exploration of the iconic figure of Dizzy Gillespie, whose distinctive trait—the hyperextension of his cheeks during performance—is isolated and sublimated here. The vibrant, organic surfaces once again recall the concept of "silent acoustics" present in most of the artist's works.
He does not limit himself to a celebratory portrait; he creates an almost alien anatomical deformation, where the flesh stretches to the point of losing its biological connotation and becoming a "sounding board." In keeping with Fontana's research, the act of sound ceases to be an ephemeral acoustic phenomenon and becomes a solid volume, an internal pressure that presses against the confines of matter.
