The sculptures are part of a series titled '4 meters and 98 cm,' a reference to the precise depth of the drainage canal running next to my studio, discovered after a serious pipe malfunction that nearly flooded the workspace. The titles I use are always dates or units of measurement: I believe the apparent precision of these references carries a strong conceptual and abstract value. On one hand, the object they refer to remains unknown; on the other hand, the very idea of measurement is inherently ambiguous: according to physics, it is impossible to determine the exact size of an object because every unit or instrument, no matter how precise, inevitably carries a margin of error. The works are primarily made of concrete, with details in a mixture of concrete and egg white, which gives the material a clay-like consistency. The color of the sculptures comes from a particular process: paintings are done on sheets of tissue paper, which are then transferred to the fresh concrete using a technique similar to fresco painting.
