Candies project. Between imagination, taste and work, 2023.
Candies is an imaginative story about a group of workers enjoying a break and savouring sweets on a construction site. The act of seeing and tasting something sweet stimulates a series of synesthetic processes in them, a dialogue that allows the workers to project themselves into other possible and impossible worlds.
Like real actors, they suddenly change the structure and form of dialogue. Guided by irony and personal desires, they dream of looking down on the city from the skyscrapers they own; they dream of owning islands in the Pacific.
They rejoice at how easy it was to reach the top thanks to the opening of an e-commerce lollipop shop; but the ease of this production process blocks their imagination, preventing them from fantasising further.
The irony of opposites brings them back to remember the path that made them workers, their origins, stories about school, their first loves and their first thefts of sweets.
In this way, the beauty of real life surpasses the idea of a chimera, the laughter seems unstoppable, but unfortunately the break is over, the boss calls everyone to order and the workers, covering their mouths to hide their smiles, return to work.
The Candies series evokes the dreamlike projections of the two protagonists, based on the idea of the classic construction site.
Here, the work (the Block) is home: a vital place where one can warm up, eat and live. A symbolic setting, therefore, which, in its reference to the construction site, allows for the construction of possible worlds and universes, existential interstices, offering new coordinates for interpretation.
