Cavalletto a dondolo

The title Rocking Trestle sounds like a calembour, evoking the rocking horse. The rocking condition stands for slowness and lingering, returning to the body, the first support from which it originates: the mother cradling her child. This is the result of an intimate search for reflections on the origin of art, assayed through the simulacrum of painting that is its most deep-rooted and collective manifestation, addressed to one of the technical elements that accompanied its evolutionary ages: the painter's easel. The contradiction in terms of which the work becomes the bearer, the impracticality of painting is given by the rocking base, results from the interruption of the mutual agreement of balance and staticity that has united in the modern age and sometimes in the contemporary, author and work, the antinomy of painting technique and beyond. Drawing and writing enter into a dialectical relationship, until, sign by sign, graphite and ink dissolve into the three-dimensionality of the sculptural object, saturating the surface of the wood to the point of making a second skin. The work probes the relationships between space, motion, sign, materials and language, linking experimental design and the legacy of the art-historical tradition in a choral installation that sees it, multiplied in three elements formally identical, but different in materials and epidermis, lying in silent conversation on the floor covered with gold isothermal blankets. The rocking, the wave, the drift in the suspended dimension of waiting and momentum, of feeling part of the happening in which the sensuality of life and its exhaustion can coincide.
The easel is the witness that resists the impermanence of time, becomes an act of mental and physical resistance.
The process I highlight is that of the artist's slow work, exhausting as a cilice , straining at the problems of the century of an art that thinks, and that does not merely represent something that pre-exists it, but gives to think again.
