“This artwork was created during the revolution in my country while students were being shot by corrupt government representatives: the dictatorship must disappear forever.” - I wrote in my Instagram profile in 2016 when I exhibited this artwork in my first personal art exhibition in Como, Italy.
I could never have imagined that this particular painting would become some sort of premonitor.
Suddenly, in February 2022, this painting acquired a very different interpretation.
This bear is the symbol of the 1980 Moscow Olympics and his friendly face hides his real intention which shines through Kalashnikov. In the background, the Ukrainian flag is covered by military planes and tanks.
The whole attempt to return to the Soviet empire is a utopian idea.
