"Kintsugi" is about celebrating the battles the soul has come through, accepting and honoring the scars that testify how it has been shattered and has come together as a more complete and precious entity. The title is borrowed from the ancient Japanese technique of repairing porcelain vessels accentuating the cracks with gold instead of concealing them.
Being a chapter of a wider ongoing project called "Rinascimenti Privati", within Kintsugi I frequently use a circle to frame the images as an homage to "Tondo", paintings that flourished during the Italian Renaissance.
I then break the frame to add dynamism and tridimensionality and to symbolize a turning point in the story: the character transforms through a painful yet necessary process and gets closer to their true self.
