The work represents a particular moment in the artist's life in which, for health reasons, he felt the fear of no longer being able to produce his works. So the author chose the metaphor of the dragonfly which, recognizing that it has a very short existence, hurries to deposit its last eggs before dying. Note the care with which the anthropomorphic insect protects the newly laid eggs.
