The performance took place on the occasion of Mother’s Day, a celebration that has become very commercial.
No presents, no chocolates for those who, like me, have no mother to celebrate.
I called people orphaned by a mother and together we walked and performed the gesture of a hug to the void that turns into a self-hug. A simple gesture that brings attention to the absence of the person we would like to hug but also to the care of ourselves. When we embrace ourselves, we also embrace our mother. We are then able to reconnect with her as we are a continuation of her. My whole body and every single cell contain parts of my mother and father. If I embrace myself, I also embrace them.
