Mitosis 2024, resin, unique piece, Open-air Museum of Piscina (Turin)
On the exposed brick wall, a shred of a past history adjacent to the municipal building of Piscina, Di Blasi presents a fiberglass model entitled “Mitosis”. The plastic situation, in its plastic elaboration of a germinative process, now insinuates itself between the ravines created by time now flows projecting on the surface.
It is precisely his stylistic figure to combine the form with the identity of the material used, producing interventions that enter into a symbiotic relationship with the environment in which they are placed. His way of proceeding is light, engaging, it draws the observer’s eye into a connection of narrative correspondence, which finds new sequences in the participation of the observer. The perception of a progressive plastic evolution in suspension, the precarious balance of the forms, the golden color gives the model a sinuosity in progress that in this case solicits a sort of tactile risk. His sculptural proposals are supported by a constant union between art and the surrounding context, in a relationship of perfect harmony and in tune with the community that welcomes him. «Art is the invisible breath - explains Di Blasi - that connects our being rooted in the earth to our self that expands through space, growing like a plant that feeds on history». «In “Mitosi” - says the author - the observer becomes part of this vital cycle that reveals the continuity between the past represented by a historic wall in the municipality of Piscina and the present, where the resinous material, through dialogue with nature and time, makes visible what is hidden just as if it were a precious memory. The site-specific “Mitosi” works will be completed in this triptych that in addition to Piscina will see the birth of new sculptures in 2025 in Tampere in Finland and finally in December 2024 in Alba, my city.»
