What is the role of photographs in our contemporary society? In a system saturated with images, where machines generate art and where everyone is a photographer; how to implement a real artistic experimentation without falling into the endless visual whirlpool? And how to tell the sense of belonging if our existence is becoming increasingly labile and ephemeral?
In a recent conference, Falcinelli suggested that the future of fruition will be characterized by a widespread and total experience. Where the media will become increasingly imperceptible, but pervasive, wrapping everything without certain borders. Where the media will become increasingly imperceptible, but invasive, enveloping everything without boundaries some. Like the mosaic works in San Marco in Venice, which cover every inch of the building surface, in a sudden passage from one theme to another, without sharp breaks, but with absolute fluidity. In this context, the very notion of photography will be subject to other mutations, going even further than the pioneering experiences of post-photography. An answer could be found within this artistic project. Screenshot is the title of the individual shots but also of the entire photographic series. A project born with the aim of building a bank to the flood of images that overwhelms reality. And to understand how new technologies have transformed our conception of place. Not the subversive action of a photographer, but the reflection of an artist who uses photography, like many other means of expression, and who questions his possibilities of telling the contemporary. Here, dancing in a metaphotographic dimension, the screens themselves become subjects and means of experimentation. The most disparate images overlap, mixing with texts, icons, videos, in a continuous layering that contemplates only simultaneous viewing. Like any digital excursion, where the contamination between the different codes is the basis of the attempt to give shape to a total fruition. And where the sudden passage gives life to new narrative and experiential forms. In the project photography is manifested in this way, as the title, through screenshots. Photographs that immortalize the landscape present within our screens, telling, often with extreme sincerity, even the most hidden aspects. They are non-fotographies that freeze inside the firmament of our daily existence, flattened on a screen.
A place to which we belong and which we believe belongs to us.
