I currently live and work in Palermo. After studying painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, I perfected my technique and style by attending various courses. Among them are the International Superior Course of Visual Arts at Ratti Foundation, with teacher Anish Kapoor and Karel Appel. My later production is characterized by various approaches, including painting, performance and site-specific installations.
Over the last few years, I have explored pain and its possible catharses. The experience of grief after losing both my parents represented the beginning of a shared narration, open to all those who want to contribute after empathizing with my emotions. The video installation Roundtrip/Her (2019) – one of the artworks in this series – engages the viewer on a whole-body level that actively demands a reaction destined to become part of the installation. In Roundtrip/Her, I am using one of my mother’s garments for the first time, a piece of clothing that still bears her scent.

The following series Oggetti (2021) (Objects) inherits from Roundtrip the idea of a possible retrieval of the emotional past through the objects still bearing that memory. The use of highly perishable materials like paper characterizes the whole series, symbolizing instability and its positive side. The series Oggetti stands on the threshold between concrete and abstract world, between actual presence and symbolic re-enactment. It stands in a special spot in our soulds where creative acts reach a state unaffected by time.
